Went to a coworker’s house to jump in his rig so we could work in Granite Falls the afternoon. Snow trickles in ever so lightly as we approach his neighborhood.

Got there and he couldn’t even drive up his own street at a slight grade. W e decided to call it a day. My drive home was moderately okay, a few slips here and there. But then the flakes fattened and the winds picked up. I couldn’t see a few feet in front of me at low speeds. Soon, not even the road. Then, I started losing traction entirely — in low, around 4 miles per hour — and I actually almost didn’t make the final two blocks home.

Get out of the truck and I can’t see at anything but blinding flurries of doom. I walk toward a structure that I assume is that one place I pay money to live in. The key worked so I win!

It’s such a pain in the ass, but man is it pretty when the sun hits it. It even makes the gravel pit on the other side of the river from my office look ok.

Stay safe out there. One of the two streets that exit my neighborhood (both hilly) had a three- or four- block incline  that was just a solid sheet of smooth ice this morning, like a skating rink. Not sure I’ve ever seen anything quite like it. Cars were sliding all over the place—not much AWD or 4wd can do for you if there just isn’t any traction! I parked and helped a couple of other cars avoid or escape the worst of it, then headed home to give it some time to melt before heading in to work a little later.

Took me over an hour to get from Westlake to Lake City. Get to Bothell and there's nothing.  Lynnwood is an ice rink according to my wife.

Fedex actually called us back it got so bad. Took two hours to return to Redmond as even the slightest grade was impossible. There were many unavoidable hills where after my brakes instantly locked up I just lai d on the horn, and hoped people would get out of the way as I slid through the intersection. The short s ection on 220th between highway 99 and I5 probably had 3 0 crashed cars, and another pileup where everyone attempted to cut through Premera Blue Cross over to 216th.

Getting into the Miata and driving home felt so good. I'm still shocked at how well these three year old winter tires perform after year-round usage and many miles.

How much accumulation has Everett gotten since it started this afternoon? When I was heading to work at 1, there was sweet fuck-all for snowfall.

I should remind you that this isn't even half as bad as the stuff we had last year. That was six inches in 3 days, and the roads turned to slippery slush.

We’re supposed to be getting upwards of a foot here in VT over the next 24 hours. You would think people who live in Northern VT would know how to drive in the snow but I am still stressed out about venturing into traffic to get to work tomorrow. Driving a nice car in the winter sucks.
